Role and Responsibilities

Assists with medication management, understand confidentiality with respect to patient/client care; comply with all federal and state laws applicable to the confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) and electronic protected health information (EPHI); and follow HIPAA guidelines regarding readily identifiable protected health information. Works under direction of Pharmacist. 
 

Core Functions

  • Understand confidentiality with respect to patient/ client care; complying with all federal and state laws applicable to the confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) and electronic protected health information (EPHI); and follow HIPAA guidelines regarding readily identifiable protected health information
  • Retrieving, pouring, counting, labeling, and reconstituting prescription medications
  • Accessing, inputting, and retrieving information through the Pharmacy’s computer network to maintain accurate records
  • Create accurate prescription labels
  • Obtain refill authorizations from prescribers
  • Process and prepare third-party insurance claims
  • Maintain accurate patient/ client profiles
  • Prepare reports related to sales, usage, and inventory
  • Comply with established procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Professionally answer phones and direct customer calls to the appropriate personnel
  • Accept prescriptions to be filled and ensuring that the PIC has the data necessary to fill the orders
  • Greet and assist customers, collect co-payments and help locate over-the-counter products
  • Record keeping related to inventories, receipts, purchases, and deliveries
  • Package and label products under the supervision of the PIC
  • Unpack and organize incoming merchandise, including sorting items that require special handling and restocking shelves
  • Check for outdated medications and notifying the PIC of low inventories
  • Handle customer problems/ concerns in a calm manner and referring them to the pharmacist accordingly and notify the pharmacist of any issues
  • Properly process pseudoephedrine sales and Medicare DME claims
  • Promoting teamwork, professional services and clear communication
     

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Pharmacy technician license or pharmacy technician trainee license from the Texas State Board
  • Previous cashier experience
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to read and transcribe pharmaceutical information
  • Stand for long periods of time, sit for intermittent periods of time
  • Bend, reach, climb, squat, lift, push, or pull a minimum of 40 lbs
